This body of work is inspired by the delicate lines found on vintage mining maps. I incorporate additional layers of mulberry paper marked with ink to evoke an illusion of depth and connection.
Embedded within these pieces is a subtle commentary on our relationship with the planet. The marks dancing over the map's surface mirror the energy and spirit of natural forces that shape the land. Hand-drawn lines and gestures serve as a metaphor for humanity's impact on the environment. While my primary intention is to meditate on beauty, there's an underlying melancholy that may be hard to overlook.
I gravitate towards using natural and handmade materials in my artistic practice. Some of the ink I utilize is brewed from walnuts gathered near my home in New Mexico, adding a personal touch to the creative process.
